Hope Through Wishes

Cecilia

October 19, 2018

Cecilia is a delightful 8 year old little girl who was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma cancer. She was approved for her Wish to Disney while she was going through the first phase of her treatment, chemotherapy. The plan was that once she completed her chemo, had surgery to remove the ribs where the tumor was located, and completed radiation, her hair would grow back so she could be a princess at Disney World. When Cecilia had surgery, it was found that the tumor was more aggressive than first thought, so a portion of her lung had to be removed as well. Unfortunately, that meant she had to undergo another round of chemotherapy. Because she had to start right back with the harsh treatment, her little body was not responding well. Her blood counts were consistently too low for her to get the treatments needed to save her life. It was decided to go ahead and send her on her Wish trip because the outcome was unknown for her.

Cecilia and her family spent a week at Disney, Universal, Epcot, and Give Kids the World. We received regular updates full of smiles and joy. On the last day of her Wish, she had bloodwork drawn at an Orlando hospital. Miraculously, her blood levels were higher than they had been since she initially began treatments.

Her Wish allowed her to relax, have fun with her family, and just be a child. This gave her body a chance to heal and become stronger. Two days after she returned home from her Wish trip, she was able to re-start her life saving treatments. As of February, 2019 she is in complete remission!
