Update From The Director

August 15, 2020

You’ve seen a lot of action from us lately surrounding fundraisers. I wanted to take a moment and share with you all where we are as an organization.

Like everyone else, we have been affected by the pandemic. Nonprofits all over the country are struggling, and we have heard the statistic that one in four will not make it through this. WE WILL MAKE IT! Children are still sick…families are still struggling. Although some traditional Wishes to visit Disney have been postponed until things return to somewhat “normal”, several have been modified or changed so that we can get them completed safely, and in a timely manner. We are still granting Wishes, and Wish requests are still coming in.

I’m sure many of you have heard or read that what makes Granted unique is that we continue to serve our families long after the Wish is complete through a series of Beyond The Wish benefits. Among these benefits are support groups, events throughout the year, programming, and resources in the family’s times of crisis. Unfortunately, we have seen a lot of crisis situations this year, but have been with the families every step of the way.

Beyond that though, our wonderful Board of Directors has supported our Granted families through three waves of relief. The first came in the form of help for food and supplies. The second was a series of Caravans of Hope where we rallied communities to safely parade past family homes, and then we gave each family a bag of activities and snacks. And finally, within the next few weeks, our Board will personally be delivering PPE care packages (that include sanitizers, wipes, cleaners, masks, etc.) to our families to help them stay safe and well. This is why our fundraisers are so important. We do our best to have a variety of options for people to choose from. Plus, a number of community members have stepped up with generous donations to help. You all make what we do possible through your support, and we truly thank you!

Blessings,
Susan Washburn
